East River Blues Band Live at McGully Alley TONIGHT

We have a live band playing tonight.

Join McGully Alley for a night of live blues music by the East River Blues Band. Enjoy our delicious specialty, the unfiltered rice wine produced in various regions of South Korea called makgeolli. Pair them with traditional and nouveau dishes perfect for enjoying rice wines. Our fun and friendly servers will guide you through the various makgeolli selections and their distinct characteristics.

There is plenty to try as you enjoy blues played by the East River Blues Band. You can hear their whiskey ballads on the radio but on March 27 they will perform live at McGully Alley-- hopefully with a rice wine ballad or two.

Faves

Last night’s most popular dishes were our antipasto with marinated shiitake mushrooms, zucchini, and peppers and this heaping plate of tender kalbi short rib with springy rice cake ("duk"). They go really well with light beer and original or mountain herbs makgeolli.

Greetings

When you come into McGully Alley you are immediately greeted by this giant cat. Followed by a greeting in unison by our outfitted waitresses. Come say hello to them both.

Now Open!

McGully Alley is now open for business! The time leading up to our grand opening has been a great adventure with tremendous support from our friends and family.

We invite you to come experience the delectable unfiltered rice wine known as makgeolli. Once considered the alcoholic beverage that envigorated hard working Korean farmers makgeolli is now enjoying unprecedented popularity in Japan and the US. The 6%-alcohol-by-volume wine is best served chilled with a platter of our delicious seafood or potato pancakes ("jun") and hot pot soups. We offer a number of brewery labels from different regions of Korea. One of our favorites is the award-winning Chamsary draft makgeolli, which is unpasteurized to maintain live yeast content (like many artisan beers) and must be flown from Korea to be enjoyed before its expiration.

We are also constantly developing nouveau ways to frame the slightly sweet, pleasant fragrance of this traditional beverage. The adventurous may like the bubbly, creamy texture our fresh egg cream makgeolli. Fresh fruits in our makgeolli sangria washes the palate with waves of flavor that teases you to find the makgeolli taste. Those with a sweet tooth will definitely enjoy the easygoing Lychee makgeolli cocktail and its friends papaya, kiwi, and mango.

Other ideas in work include makgeolli jello shots, fresh makgeolli baked treats, banana cream, and much more. We hope to see you soon!
